Question

Hi Ron,

I was browsing through your site and I find it very helpful and informative. You have a great collection of SQL resources! :)

Also, if you’re open to suggestions, I think SQLClauses.com would be a great fit. It is an educational website which aims to help people improve their SQL and database knowledge, and explains the most important SQL clauses and functions. It features comprehensive guide to SQL language concepts and SQL commands as well as cheat sheet (http://www.sqlclauses.com/SQL_Cheat_Sheet.pdf). I hope you find it a good resource for your visitors and consider adding it to your resources page.

All the best,

Peter - USA (25261)

Answer

Thanks for the suggested resources. I added them to the SQL Resources page.

Question

Greetings!

Your website is absolutely beautiful. We could all benefit from just seeing your design. I won't waste your time, so I will get to the point. I have poured my heart into a website(www.afterhoursprogramming.com) that I created almost a year ago, but it just seems to get nowhere will all the powerhouses like w3schools.com or tizag.com dominating the market. Google has imposed all of these new rules banning the very practices they used to get to the top, which seems to make an entrance for a new website impossible. I was wondering if you would look at my website, and if you like it, and to put me in your resources. I understand that your website is a giant compared to mine (and better looking), but I could really use a hand. I believe I am providing solid content in with a better designed site that w3schools or tizag, but I am buried because of their dominance. Thank you for at least reading my email and I wish your site the best of luck, even though you don't need it.

Have a wonderful week!

Answer

Thanks for the praise. I checked out your website, and it has a good look.

I provided links to your site from SQL Resources and Web Design Resources.

It is difficult to compete with sites like w3schools.com, especially since they have a staff of workers designing pages and content. Instead, you should narrow your focus and try to get known by smaller groups. Start locally, providing information and your URL to computer groups and programming classes in high schools and colleges. This way you can get a following.

This is just like starting any type of business. Have business cards with website name and URL, so you can give them to people you meet. Of course, a page on Facebook, Twitter, Google + and others helps to spread the word.

It take a long time to get noticed. Plus, there is much more competition than there was a few years ago. But just keep plugging away.

Best wishes for success in your site.

Question

Hi Mr. Kurtus,

I am the author of the 1Keydata SQL Tutorial at www.1keydata.com/sql/sql.html, and I'd like to suggest that you link to this site from your SQL Resources page at www.school-for-champions.com/sql/resources.htm. The 1Keydata SQL Tutorial has been online since 2001, and its goal is to teach SQL to non-technical people, and I believe it will be a good resource for your readers.

Thank you.

Answer

I added your site as a resource on our SQL Resource page.
